After graduation he returned to St. Petersburg and was hired as the Bible Associate for the Elim Seventh-day Adventist Church. In 1988, Pastor Mells went to Andrews Theological Seminary where he obtained his Master of Divinity degree. At Andrews he served as the President of the Black Student’s Association of the Seminary. Since graduating from the seminary Pastor Mells has pastured in several churches including Lake City, Live Oak, Lakeland, Plant City, Ocala, Leesburg, Citra, and Coconut Grove all in Florida.
